EDITORIAL PROCESS
The editorial process for publishing a scientific article in Majalah Kesehatan outlines the procedures followed by editors from the point of manuscript submission to final publication. The process is divided into three key stages: at submission, after submission, and after acceptance.
At Submission
Author should carefully review the Submission-Author Guidelines to ensure that their manuscript meets the journal's standards in terms of scope, length, and formatting—particularly the layout of figures and tables. Adhering to these guidelines at the submission and revision stages will help minimize delays in the editorial process. Manuscripts must be submitted through the journal’s online submission system.
While optional, a cover letter is highly encouraged. It provides authors with an opportunity to briefly highlight the significance of the submitted work and its relevance to the journal. Authors should refrain from reiterating information already included in the abstract or introduction. The cover letter is not shared with reviewers and may be used to disclose confidential information, such as conflicts of interest or concurrent submissions elsewhere.
After Submission
Upon receipt, submitted manuscripts undergo a preliminary assessment by the editorial office to ensure compliance with formatting guidelines, plagiarism checks, and completeness of required documentation.
Manuscripts that pass this pre-review check are assigned to an editor specializing in the relevant subject area, who determines whether the manuscript should be sent for peer review. This initial editorial decision is not a reflection of the technical merit or scientific impact of the work.
Selected manuscripts are forwarded to two or three referees for peer review. Majalah Kesehatan employs a transparent peer review process. While peer review files provide insights into the editorial evaluation, they may not include all elements involved in decision-making, such as editorial discussions, decision letters, or confidential comments shared between reviewers and editors.
Editor Decision
At every decision point, the editor—often in consultation with editorial colleagues—reviews the referees’ reports and communicates the outcome to the authors in one of the following forms:
- Acceptance without revisions: The manuscript is accepted as-is for publication.
- Provisional acceptance pending minor revisions: The manuscript is accepted in principle, pending minor revisions based on reviewer feedback. In such cases, revised manuscripts are usually not returned to reviewers but are accepted after editorial verification of the required changes.
- Decision deferred pending major revisions: Additional technical work or experiments are typically required. Revised manuscripts must include a detailed point-by-point response to all reviewer comments and may be returned to reviewers for re-evaluation.
- Rejection with invitation to resubmit: If substantial technical concerns exist but the work shows promise, authors may be invited to resubmit. A resubmission must fully address all reviewer comments and be accompanied by a detailed response letter. Editors may decline to send resubmitted manuscripts for review if revisions are deemed insufficient.
- Rejection without resubmission option: Manuscripts rejected outright will not be reconsidered, and authors are discouraged from submitting revised versions. Appeals are considered only if the authors can convincingly argue that critical aspects of the paper were misunderstood or overlooked. Appeals must be specific and scientifically justified. While appeals are reviewed, due to space constraints and volume of submissions, they are not prioritized.
If the editor decide to accept manuscripts but need revisions, the Author will be requested to revise the manuscript within the timeframe specified by the Editor and resubmit it through the journal’s online submission system.
Decision letters often include formatting and stylistic guidance. Authors are advised to revise their manuscripts accordingly and maintain professional, respectful language in their responses, as these may be shared with referees.
After Acceptance
Once accepted, manuscripts undergo copyediting to ensure clarity, consistency, and adherence to Majalah Kesehatan's editorial standards. The subediting team plays an essential role in refining the manuscript by:
- Enhancing clarity and precision, particularly for an interdisciplinary audience. Special attention is given to manuscripts written by non-native English speakers, especially the summary sections.
- Ensuring the final manuscript complies with length restrictions and figure/table limits.
- Aligning terminology and notation with the journal’s style guidelines.
- Confirming that visual elements (figures and tables) are legible and appropriately formatted for publication.
Once the manuscript is accepted for publication in Majalah Kesehatan, the editor will issue a Letter of Acceptance. The author will then be requested to proceed with the Article Processing Charge (APC) payment, with detailed payment instructions available in the announcements.
